Yes Many are not sovereign states No political arena they rule themselves in Example: Kurds (turkey, syria, northern iraq, iran) Palestine (palestinians wanting to form sovereign state) Kosovo (trying to being a sovereign state) Why won’t they let these territories go? Sovereign states never willingly give up territory Without a tremendous fight or a whole lotta money Never know what the strategic value may be worth Examples: Russia sold alaska territory to U.S. for a whole lotta money Louisiana purchase sold to U.S.
