1. Define memory, recall, and recognition. Memory is “the chain that connects our past to our present,” it’s the mechanism that stores and recalls information. Learning that has persisted over time, information that has been stored and, in many cases, can be recalled. Recall is a measure of memory in which the person must retrieve information learned earlier. Like a fill-in-the-blank test, where you need to be able to pull up what goes in the blank Recognition is a measure of memory in which the person need only identify items previously learned. Like a multiple option test, select the correct one 2. What are the stages of Atkinson and Shiffrin’s model of memory? External events are encoded into the brain as part of sensory memory, then they are encoded in the brain as working and short-term memory, finally they’re encoded into the brain in long-term memory storage… all stored for future use and eventually retrieved through recall and recognition.
