BMSC 11001: Week 3 Chapter 4: The Tissue Level of Organisation. Learning Outcomes: 1.Skeletal system functions include support, protection, movement, mineral homeostasis, blood cell production, and energy storage. 2. Bones are classified on the basis of shape as long, short, flat, irregular, or sesamoid. 3. Long bones have a diaphysis, a medullary cavity, epiphyses, metaphyses, and periosteum. 4. Osseous tissue can be arranged in two ways: as compact bone tissue or spongy bone tissue. 5. Bones are richly supplied with blood vessels and nerves. 6. The two types of bone formation are intramembranous ossification and endochondral ossification. 7. Bones grow longer at the epiphyseal plate and increase in diameter by the addition of new osseous tissue around the outer surface. 8. Bone remodeling renews osseous tissue, redistributes bone extracellular matrix, and repairs bone injuries. 9. Bones of the axial skeleton and appendicular skeleton have characteristic surface markings. 10. The skull provides attachment sites for muscles and membranes, and protects and supports the brain and sense organs.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
