2 Approximate Equivalent Circuits ' 1 1 2 eq R R R ' 1 1 2 eq l l X X X ' 2 2 V aV The voltage drops across R 1 and X l 1 are usually small, as both of them have very small values. Hence, | E 1 | ~ | V 1 | Then we can move the parallel branch to the supply terminal.

3 Determination of Circuit Parameters The equivalent circuit parameters of a transformer can be obtained by performing the: no-load test (open-circuit test) and a short-circuit test

4 No-load Test (or Open-Circuit Test) The test is performed by applying a voltage to either the high-voltage side or low-voltage side.

5 Short-Circuit Test The test is performed by short-circuiting one winding and applying rated current to the other winding. If the secondary terminals are shorted, the high impedance of the shunt branch can be neglected.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
