From the identification experiment planned above, you will know the dye(s) present. You cannot use the isolated dye(s) directly to find ε, for the concentration is unknown – in fact, you will eventually seek this concentration. However, you will have the previously mentioned stock solutions of pure dye for which the concentration is known (seven stock dye solutions, one for each of the seven FD&C dyes). Thus, to find the absorbance-concentration relationship, the stock dye solution(s) must be used. Incorporating the appropriate stockdye solution(s) design an experimental plan to find the molar absorptivity (ε) of the FD&C food dye(s) present in your assigned commercial candy.
