Date: January 23, 2008 To: Professor Nancy Kotzian From: Arthur Peschansky, BBA Preferred Admit Freshman Subject: Analysis of communication needs and skills for consulting When interviewing Ms. Savina Singh from IBM, I was given four main qualities that an entry- level consultant should look to emulate. Understand the Big Picture In a consulting role the employee sells his or her own intelligence rather than a specific product. The consultant must come into a situation, analyze it, and prescribe a solution. One of my major strengths as a communicator is being able to see the bigger picture and tackling it quickly. Through my experiences in DECA I had to present cases to a panel of judges (a situation similar to most consulting interviews). I learned what it means to grasp the whole concept instead of just focusing on trivial details. I had to center my argument on the bigger issues in order to complete the assigned task. Stay Concise Ms. Singh stated that most consultants work a specific job for about three months. This means that the consultant must be able to work quickly and be concise. Although one of my
