Individuals concerned for the future of the country and changing climate patterns are labelled doomsayers like those from ancient Greek tragedies. Two minutes to midnight remain on the Doomsday Clock (Roston) with eleven years left to bring down greenhouse gas emissions and reverse climate change, yet the current White House administration is doing nothing. Half of the country continues life as always, the other half lobbies desperately for change, and the only people with the power to establish better climate-oriented legislation continue to dismiss an emergency that has been building for centuries. The climate crisis can no longer be ignored lest the nation plans to sustain government inaction, increase national debt, and approach the point of no return long before eleven years are up. The majority of public indifference to changing weather patterns, and the dying planet in general, stems from deliberate and continuous undermining of the climate change severity. Students and scientists alike are mocked by world leaders, politicians, other scientists, and the public for worrying about the future over data that, they argue, is based on the previous century’s outdated models, and is therefore general and inaccurate enough to be not taken seriously (Gelbspan).
