Work with diverse people - CHCDIV001 _NEW Activity 1A Objective: To provide you with an opportunity to identify and reflect on own social and cultural perspectives and biases. Activity: 1. Describe two social practices that you do that are a direct result of your cultural upbringing. Have these changed from the practices of your parents when they were young. Why/ why not? 1.Attending Mass every Sunday . This is the number one social practice that I still do up to now as a result of our cultural and way of my parents upbringing. Almost 80% of Filipino are Christian, specifically Roman Catholic. We do have lots of patrons saints, spiritual beliefs but the on the top of it is to put God First in our lives and to honor Him the seventh day of the week which is on Sunday. These practices of my parents, grandparents had never been changed when they were young because generation to generation, it is passed to us, and we practice it since we were young. 2.Be respectful to elders and saying “po and opo” at the end of phrases/sentences when talking to elders. As a greeting or talking to someone older, I put/add “po at opo” when talking to them. Until now, I used it when talking to Filipino Adults. My parents , even during our school days, taught us to respect people especially elderly and must say po and opo during conversation. It is a honorific gesture for us Filipino. These practice of saying po and opo were not changed because my parents discipline us (we siblings) to always put it. Saying it everyday , put it as practice and routine would be a reason why this social practice has never been changed3.Me being family oriented. It is not just me nor my family are family oriented but most of the Filipino are. We tend to be close to our family that makes us having a big family. we not only close to our family but to our visitor, we do pay respect and be hospitable. These are some of social practices that I still practice in my life. Some might have a little change especially since thiswas from my parents , parent’s parents practices. It cant be easily be changed since this was put to regular practice and discipline.Activity 1BObjective:To provide you with an opportunity to work with awareness of own limitations in self and social awareness, use reflection to support own ability to work inclusively and with understanding of others, and identify and act on ways to improve own self and social awareness.Activity: How could you develop or improve your social and cultural awareness? Work with diverse people - CHCDIV001 _NEWTo improve our social and cultural awareness, strategies are being developed and practiced. Examples ofthese strategies are:\1.Linking the culture and social gap with good communication skills. We must know how to communicate to others both verbally and non-verbally. In workplace for instance, we must know the languages used by our colleagues and our clients. 2.Paying attention to different culture. One strategy that is being practice to improve social and cultural awareness is building cultural and social knowledge.
