REVIEWING RESEARCH IN THE SOCIAL SCIENCES: HOMELESSNESS2HomelessnessHomelessness is an escalating issue that is not only seen in the U.S, but around the world.There have been multiple studies done discussing how homelessness started, why it is continuingto increase and how it effects civilization. The detrimental influence homelessness has on anindividual is profound. As a debated issue, homelessness is complex because it affects, not justthe individual experiencing homelessness, but today’s society particularly regarding politics andeconomics. Since it affects so many people and has repercussions on the elements that make asociety function, it has been examined by multiple disciplines, mainly from social sciencesperspectives. People who experience homelessness suffer from isolation and since humans aresocial creatures this badly affects their mental stability. To cope, many homeless people consumedrugs and alcohol. This topic interests me because as an individual who lives ten minutes outsideof Baltimore and regularly drives through the area, seeing the increased numbers of individualsbegging for help is heartbreaking. Homeless individuals are human beings, not trash in the road.They need help. Therefore, this assignment with be used to examine credible studies, frommultiple social sciences view-points, which discuss the various effects of homelessness onindividuals and society.Credible SourceAs advancements in technology increase, accessibility to information’s has becomeeasier. However, not all information is credible, most media platforms, which release articlesabout daily issues in America, are not fact checked and most of the time, false. For example, aperson would not use CNN to support their topic in the scholarly paper because it has not beenpublished in an academic journal, nor has it been cited in other books, dissertations and journals.Therefore, when writing any academic paper, it is important to use credible sources.
