Quality Literature in Content Area Classrooms Quality literature helps teachers to build literacy- rich classrooms in all content areas. Using literary text in content-area classrooms “ensures that students develop not only skilled reading practices but also more engaged responses to text with the additional benefit of improved test scores,” (Dombey, 2009).
Using Literature to Enhance Curriculum in Mathematics Literature can connect math to real life scenarios, giving reason why math is important and how to it used in different situations. Reading books that incorporate math skills and ideas helps dismiss the myth that math is boring, dry and difficult. It can help students who are struggling to understand a concept by providing context that illuminates the meaning. Introduces math in a non-threating way and helps create interest in the subject.
