Understanding how much or how little a material corrodes when exposed to specific chemicals is crucial before it is used in any application. Tests need to be carried out to determine how corrosive chemicals are to determine the lifespan ofthe material and how well it will perform up till that point. Sometimes inhibitors can be used to protect metals from corrosion and give thema longer life span. In this lab the corrosion rate was measured for two metals, 1018 Steel and Brass and also the effectiveness of inhibitors ability to protect them from corrosion.ProcedureWe were provided with one sample of 1018 Steel and one of Brass, these were then sanded with 400 grit and 600 grit sandpaper, washed, then polished with 1 micron powder in preparation for metallographic observations. Using a microscope photos were taken of each metal at different magnifications to serve as a base before any corrosion.The materials were then separately
