The nursing profession has significantly grown over time with all the new technology involved. It has moved from relying upon total medical direction providing primary care into an independent practice method with its nursing theory practice. Patients are learning to trust healthcare professionals more for their care due to the practice of evidence-based research. In United States, nurses have shown passion in caring for patient. A nursing theorist by the name, Jean Watson wrote the philosophy and Science of caring. Her theory influences my nursing practice. Nursing Theory Jean Watson stated that "Caring is central to the nursing practice which promotes health better than a simple medical cure" (Petiprin, 2016). "Watson believes that the comprehensive approach to health care is central to the practice of caring in nursing" (Petiprin, 2016). Watson's caring theory allows me to show compassion to my patients when taking care of them. "Human caring has long been considered the primary domain of nurses and the primary function of nursing practice" (Sitzman & Muller, 2018, p. E53). Compassion is an attribute that any nurse should possess since taking care of patients' needs is their primary purpose.
