5-2 Discussion: Contingency and Dr. King Hello Everyone, Dr. Martin Luther King’s assassination affected the Civil Rights Movement in a positive and negative ways. His assassination helped the Fair Housing Act, and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to pass quickly. I think if Dr. King was not assassinated these two acts would take longer to pass. The Fair Housing Act 1968 was passed right after Dr. King’s assassination to impose a comprehensive solution to the problem of unlawful discrimination in housing based on race, color, sex, national origin, or religion.
