PHY 114 Lab #2 – Uniform Motion Date: 9/18/2018
Objective: Complete the data table provided and calculate the distance, time, average time, and average velocity of the glider using photogates. Then plot a graph of d vs. tavg using the results of the data table. After that is done determine the slope of the graph. The steps for this Physics lab included: 1. Position the start and stop photogates so that the distance between them is 20cm. 2. Set the master photogate to pulse mode. 3. With the rubber band set for the smallest separation, launch the glider and record the time. 4. Repeat two more times for the same distance. 5. Repeat the procedure after moving the stop photogate to give timing distances of 40cm, 60cm, 80cm and 100cm. This will be done three times for each distance. 6. Calculate the average time for each distance using the three times. 7. Calculate the average velocity for each distance by using the equation v=d/tavg. 8. Plot a graph of d vs. tavg using the results of the data table. 9. Determine the slope of the graph. Principles/laws tested and used: Newton’s laws of motion were used in this laboratory. It is stated in the manual that an object traveling
