Name : ID Number : Introduction and Topic Between the ages of 18 and 25 most people are in college or starting their career, and it is a very critical time in a person’s development in all three domains, psychological, social, and physiological. There are many factors that can affect the development of a person’s three domains, especially during the time of emerging adulthood when people are usually exposed to a plethora of new things and introduced to many different environments. One factor that affects the development of emerging adults more than the rest is the use of drugs. Drugs have been around for a long time and young adults are usually introduced to them while they are in high school or college. The use of drugs can have huge lasting affects on the development of an emerging adult, in all three domains. Throughout the rest of paper, you will learn how the use of drugs specifically affects each domain of development of an emerging adult. Psychological Domain Emerging adulthood is usually a time in a person’s life when they hit their peak of drug use and are exposed most to drugs. A study done by NSDUH found that, of adults ages 21-25, “ 19% and 61% reported past-month and lifetime illicit drug use” ( Davis , Sheidow , Zajac , and McCart , 2012). Drug use during this time is very dangerous and can have a huge effect on one’s mental health, especially if you already have mental health issues, the use of illicit drugs is more likely to make your situation harder than make it easier. Drug use is also likely to just add on one more problem, that an emerging adult must deal with, to the pile of problems that they already have.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
