HIST 226 Fall 2007 Paper Assignment Public Memory in Texas Assignment : This paper has two components. The first part (at least two pages ) requires you to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of James Crisp’s book, Sleuthing the Alamo . Provide a discussion of Crisp’s larger argument concerning historical memory. What sources does he use? Is his argument persuasive or unpersuasive? Why or why not? The second section (at least two pages ) of the essay asks you to examine some other Texas historical landmark other than the Alamo. You may choose a historic site or monument from your hometown, a statue or building on this campus, or some similar marker that is significant it is connection with Texas history and memory. This second part of the assignment is NOT necessarily a research project but is an exercise to get you to apply the same themes and tools utilized by Crisp in analyzing the importance of another historical site. You are not required to seek outside
