Thermo-Fluid Lab Prof. Taha Aldoss 1 Exp. 4: Pipe Flow I. Objective: 1. To determine the viscosity of water (viscometer) 2. To determine the critical Reynolds number (Reynolds experiment) 3. To determine the friction factor function of Reynolds number (Moody Chart) II. Draw a neat sketch of the apparatus. Show and name all parts in detail. III. Description of the experiment setup: A capillary tube of known inside diameter placed over a hydraulic pinch is used. The tube can be fed by two ways: (a) in case of laminar flow a constant head tank is used (b) in case of turbulent flow the tube is directly connection to a pump. Flow rate through the pipe can be varied using the needle valve at its discharge. Flow rate is measured by collecting certain water volume during a period of time. A stop watch is used to measure the time. Water manometer is used to measure pressure drop along the tube in case of laminar flow, and mercury manometer in case of turbulent flow.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
