Experiment Setup A water jet from a nozzle is issued against a flat plate or a hemispherical cup. The jet is generated by a centrifugal pump, pumping liquid from the hydraulic pinch. The jet velocity can be varied using the throttling valve at the discharge of the pump. The flow rate is measured by collecting a known mass of water during determined period of time using stop watch. The hydraulic pinch is provided with a weighing system. The diameter of the nozzle, the vertical distance between the nozzle and plates are known and written on the apparatus (do record these data). The apparatus is designed to measure the jet force by equating the moment due to jet force and the counter balance force due to a jockey weight (do record this too) moving over a ruler.
