Simon Ermakov 18078447 Andrew Roddick Planet of the Apes: Summary and introduction of topics As humanity discovers the secrets of space travel, Ulysse Merou and two companions embark on a journey in hopes of finding life outside the confines of our galaxy. After traveling for two years they land on a planet, Soror, which resembles earth in all ways except one. The position of humans as the most intellectually advanced life form has been replaced by apes. On Soror, it is gorillas, chimpanzees, and orangutans that are in control and enjoy “civilized” life while humans have degenerated into mindless savages. Soon after their landing, the company is split up and Ulysse is captured by the apes and placed in a research facility. He has trouble distinguishing himself from the other human prisoners and is subject to many demeaning tests. However, with the help of a kindly she-ape, Zira, and her fiancé, Cornelius, Ulysse manages to come into contact with the apes and explain his situation. He is granted freedom but as he learns more and
