Introduction to Paula Cortez CasePaula Cortez is a 43 year old Latina woman from Columbia. She speaks fluent English and Spanish.Paula was involved in early adolescent marriage at the age of 17 years. She got married to David and later fell pregnant for him. Paula has one child aged 20 years. However, Paula lost custody of her son while 8 years old on grounds that she was not mentally sound to take care of her child.Paula is a drug addict and mentally unsound. Notably, Paula is suffering from HIV, bipolar disorder, and Hepatitis C.
Theoretical Orientation UseIn Paula Cortez’ case, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) will be beneficial in coming up with a solution because of its sole focus: CBT will focus on Paula’s dysfunctional emotions and behavior through a systematic and goal-oriented lens.Having detailed information on daily events will be integral in determining Paula’s emotions and behavior.It will be viable to come up with evaluations and beliefs that will be easier to achieve.
