BAPTISMThe fruit of Baptism, or baptismal grace, is a rich reality that includes forgiveness of original sin and all personal sins, birth into the new life by which man becomes an adoptive son of the Father, a member of Christ and a temple of the Holy Spirit. The person baptized is incorporated into the Church, the Body of Christ, and made a sharer in the priesthood of Christ.Baptism is an important step of obedience for a Christian, but to be baptized is rejected as being required for salvation because we add our own good works and obedience to Christ’s death in order to make it sufficient for salvation. It illustrates a believer’s identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. The action of being immersed in the water illustrates dying and being buried with Christ and the action of coming out of the water pictures Christ’s resurrection.HISTORY OF BAPTISMJohn the Baptist was the final prophet of the Old Covenant. As John baptized Jesus in the Jordan, he was ushering on the messianic fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. Behind the symbol of baptism is the substance of baptism, which is the blood of Jesus Christ removing our sinfulness. As water cleanses the outer man from soil and sweat, so the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses the inner man from the stain of sin.TYPES OF BAPTISMBaptism of WaterThe sacrament of baptism received in the churchBaptism of BloodUnbaptized martyrsSomeone is in the process of learning about faith, but not yet baptized and is martyredBaptism of Desire

The white garment symbolizes the garment that Jesus wore when he was placed in the tomb after his death on Good Friday. The baptism ritual is a participatory one, with all attendees rejecting Satan and professing their faith. The ceremony is divided into eight parts:1.Sign of the Cross2.Word of God3.Exorcisms and Profession of Faith4.Blessing of the Water5.Essential rite of Baptism6.Anointing with Sacred Chrism7.Receiving or clothing in a white garment8.Receiving a lit candleTHE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATIONConfirmation is the Sacrament where Faith, grounded in the Truth of the Holy Spirit, stands out.
