Liddy Siggia Professor Williams Great Art Heist Diversity and Performance 10-1-2019 Great Chinese Art Heist The Great Chinese Art Heist started 2010- when thieves burned a car just a few blocks away to distract the police long enough so that they can steal ancient Chinese Art. Since this first incident many more Heist began to happen in China, which led to many museums around the world obtaining stolen art from China. The real debate going on, however, is whether or not he Chinese Government was behind these Heist, and if not, who did? After reading Alex Palmer’s work there is enough evidence in the text to prove as to why the Chinese Government did steal their own work. The first piece of evidence as to why the Chinese Government was behind all of the Heist is because they had known exactly what to take in a short amount of time. Most of the Heist were very quick, it was clear that the thieves were not window shopping or looking around to see what looked good to steal. An example of one of the Heist took place in Stockholm, where the theives set up a fire to distract the police, broke into the Chinese Pavilion, and stole a collection of arts and antiques, with this all happening in under 6 minutes.
