Liddy Siggia Diversity and Performance Mr. Willams Colored Stereotypes Essay September 8, 2019 Colored Stereotypes In Movies Throughout history and even now in our current history it is unavoidable the amount of racial stereotypes we see broadcasted in most Hollywood movies and shows. While the issue is being pointed out now, by campaigns such as #OscarsSoWhite, are now raising awareness about the need for more racial diversity in Hollywood, but diversity isn't the industry's only problem; the way that people of color are persistently stereotyped on screen remains a major concern. Many commercials and shows, most famously known from a Coca-Cola commercial, depicts a Middle Eastern man riding through the desert on a camel fighting to get to get to the Coca-Cola drink. This stereotype is now known as “Camel Jockey”. The biggest movie that is a stereotype of the Arab people is the Disney’s 1992 hit “Aladdin”, which faced protests from Arab groups who said the film depicted Middle Easterners as barbaric and backward.
