Sarah Mirza Career Paper 2 Healthcare today revolves around quality. To have a successfully run healthcare facility, whether it be a hospital or a clinic, it must have the best quality of patient care and outcomes. The responsibility of overlooking the quality of healthcare provided is the job of a chief quality officer. The chief quality officer seeks to improve treatment effectiveness and increase the satisfaction a patient has with their service. Their jobs have become even more important due to the quality-rating agencies that rate and rank various healthcare facilities. The better the ratings, the more funding the facility can receive. These rankings also get published and released to the public, which may result in an influx or an outflow of patients (depending on the ratings). A chief quality officer has various responsibilities. They must be responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing the readiness of all quality, regulatory, and quality improvement processes. The chief quality officer oversees and coordinates other employees of the healthcare facility to meet with all regulatory, state, federal, and Joint Commission requirements. They are also required to develop a program that can improve quality and performance. One way to develop this program is by designing one that has the same level of regulation and strictness as the financial management system. Chief quality officers sometimes use similar practices that drive a healthcare facility’s financial success and adopt it in their quality program.
