Writing/Grammar 5 In-Class Essay #1 The following are the rules for this test: 1. You may use only the following materials during the test: a dictionary, blank paper, pen/pencil, and the computer. 2. You may only use Microsoft Word for this test. You can also use the computer-based Longman. No other programs may be opened during the test. 3. You may not speak anyone else during the test. If you have a question, please ask an instructor to assist you. 4. You must save all of your work on the desktop. Do not save it anywhere else! 5. The test will go from 9:00-10:50. You should leave yourself some time to proofread before handing in your final copy. Your final product should be between 2-3 pages typed. Choose Your Topic: 1 Two qualities employers often look for when they are hiring a new employee are work experience and education. In your opinion, which of these is more important? Write an essay stating your opinion and giving at least three (3) reasons for support. 2 Travelling often changes how we view or what we feel about aspects of the culture we are visiting. In your essay, discuss how the ideas that you had about the United States have changed since you have been studying here.
