Chillicothe is the home of the outdoor drama Tecumseh! a play by Allen W. Eckert about the life of Tecumseh, the Native American leader of the Shawnee tribe who grew up in what is now the state of Ohio. Tecumseh! has been playing at the Sugarloaf Mountain Amphitheatre, which was specially built for the show, since 1973. Outdoor drama is a genre, a type of historical play set outdoors that celebrates the history of that particular geographical location. Tecumseh, for instance, was born along the Scioto River near present-day Chillicothe, where the outdoor drama Tecumseh! is performed. Another example of outdoor drama is Paul Green's Trumpet in the Land about Moravian minister David Zeisberger who hoped to establish Ohio's first settlement. Trumpet in the Land is performed in the
Schoenbrunn Amphitheatre in New Philadelphia, Ohio, which is, to quote the website , "the same hills from which this story is born." Below, a profile about Tecumseh!
