Genre Analysis
Yoga is more than a physical exercise. Yoga means “union” and leads to an integration of
mind and body. The analysis is between “Want to Relax? Try Yoga”, a “how-to” genre by Ari
Isaacman Bevacqua, LaShone Wilson and Lara Atella and “What I learned from trying yoga for
the first time”, a blog genre by David Danesh. Yoga is a practice of physical exercise, positive
thinking and meditation aimed at developing harmony in the body, mind and environment.
The intended audience for the “how-to” genre includes people wanting to relax and
starting out in the beginning stages of learning about yoga. The audience is likely to know
minimal information about yoga because the genre explains what you need and how to begin.
The audience will spend a long time examining the “how-to” genre because it includes images
and videos of poses and exercises that are more helpful than just words to explain how to do it.
