9/19/06 Charismatic Authority "The term 'charisma' will be applied to a certain quality of an individual personality by  virtue of which he is considered extraordinary and treated as endowed with supernatural,  superhuman . . . qualities.  These are such as are not accessible to the ordinary person, but  are regarded as of divine origin or as exemplary, and on the basis of them the individual  concerned is treated as a 'leader.’”                                                      Max Weber - based on personal legitimacy o leader is unconstrained o leader demands total loyalty - observable only in relationship b/w leader and followers o “divine-like” qualities exist only in the minds of followers When does charismatic authority appear?
