Purpose:
The objective of this lab is to understand how a pump operates, and the different
characteristics that allow it to function in a certain type of way. The focus is on a positive
displacement gear pump and a non-positive displacement centrifugal pump.
Procedure:
For the gear pump, measure the width, diameter of the bore of the gear chamber, and
length between both gear chambers. For the vane pump, measure the width of the rotor, short
distance, and long-distance across the bore. For the piston pump, measurer the diameter of the
piston, the length of stroke, and count the number of pistons.
Conclusion/Recommendation:
Flow rate is important in order to carry out a task properly and safely. Accurate
measurements must be taken to assure the work is efficient.
