Vitamins in Your Diet Name: Dezmen Duncan A diet that offers a variety of foods from each group, prepared with reasonable care, serves up ample vitamins. The grains group delivers thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, and folate. The fruit and vegetable groups excel in folate, vitamin C, vitamin A, and vitamin K. The protein foods group serves thiamin, niacin, vitamin B 6 , and vitamin B 12 . The dairy group stands out for riboflavin, vitamin B 12 , vitamin A, and vitamin D. Even the oils group with its vegetable oils provides vitamin E. Determine whether these food choices are typical of your diet. Food choices Frequency per week Citrus fruits 1-2 times Dark green, leafy vegetables n/a Deep yellow or orange fruits or vegetables n/a Legumes 0-1 times Milk and milk products 4-5 times Vegetable oils 1-2 times Whole- or enriched-grain products 2-3 times 1. Which vitamins may you be short of what is recommended? Which ones are you meeting the requirements? Use your book to help you place values on the food items that you eat during the week. I am more than likely short of vitamin C, A, and K as I don’t eat vegetables at all, but I do eat my fruits. Vitamin B12 is the one I am probably the best at meeting the requirements. I don’t cook every single day of the week, but when I do, I use vegetable oils so I think I am good on that vitamin as well. The grain group is also another one that I am good on if I keep eating more of them, I will be fine....
