Gilberto Araujo English 102-012 Professor Moore August 25, 2019 The influence of sexism on young teenage minds Throughout history and to this day, women have been challenged to live in society being judged and classified by sexist stereotypes that were created and reinforced by men. Because of this, women must suffer through some hardships that men do not have to worry about, and in terms of equality this can be rather controversial. Unfortunately, it’s difficult for women to combat sexism without it creating more of those stereotypes. These sexist stereotypes easily influence the perspectives of younger teenage men, who haven’t experienced life enough to make their own judgement calls. Today, it's common for teenage men to exhibit sexist objectification of women, and this type of sexism illustrates a naïve and offensive perspective of women that reinforces the stereotypical idea of how nineteen-year-old males view the opposite sex. One of the major sexist stereotypes commonly found today is the bigot belief that females are inferior when it comes to intelligence. Men discredit female intelligence without any factual evidence and there is irony in that. For example, In the story “A&P” written by John Updike
