Philosophy of Environmental Ethics 10/9/18 Ethical issues associated with CRISPR technology Imagine a world free of disease, malnutrition, and even mutation. Thanks to profound discoveries in science, the past decade has brought unthinkable possibilities. This revolutionary tool goes by the name of CRISPR. CRISPR is a powerful genome editing system that utilizes a very important enzyme called Cas-9, this enzyme has been found to work in several ways. The system has been developed to target specific sequences of DNA in order to activate, repress, and even insert specific genes by making repairs and cuts in the sequencing. The world has never seen a technology with such impactful and efficient technology to edit genes, it has the ability to advance our species abilities as well as control the destiny of humankind while presenting unimaginable consequences. CRISPR must be highly regulated worldwide in order for it to benefit all species and remain ethical. CRISPR poses many risks on the natural world, many of which we are entirely unaware of.
