Criminologist would never doubt the relationship between age and crime. One merely has to examine the age crime curve to observe peak offending years. The age crime curve shows the relationship between age and crime. It correlates crime to patterns of age offending by showing as age increases, the likelihood of offending diminishes. The age crime curve has been found to be fixed in many societies throughout the world. As age increases, crime decreases. I advocate for Laub and Sampson’s age graded social bond theory in which they argued that pathways and turning points characterize a life course thus, there is both continuity and change in behavior. They argued that people can be caught in pathways that could form a continuous line but they may have tuning points in their life that can change the trajectory. An introduction to new people and a new way of life may allow people to overcome their criminal propensities and divert them from crime. Desistence happens by default.
