GENDER EQUALITY IN PROFESSIONAL ATHLETICS 2 Constant arguments are increasingly being raised against the categorization of sports. The gender stratifications should be abolished. Women and women should be awarded with an opportunity to compete against each other on equal terms in professional athletic arenas. The key reasons behind giving up the sexual discriminations that prevail within the professional sports and for allowing individuals of both sexes to compete with each other is regarded to be simple. In sports it is acknowledged that upon fairness, the best person wins. The sexual differences are thus simply irrelevant. If at any incidence, a female athlete can outdo and perform better than a male professional athlete, then, it should be provided that this female athlete should be allowed to compete with the male and if she is even better than the male, she should beat him. If she cannot defeat a certain male athlete, it is still appropriate as she was given an equal chance to the male. If the competition was fairly ruled, she should be able to face and acknowledge the fact that he was more talented and similarly, if it is the male who is defeated, he should also accept the defeat with honor and respect the female. Sexual discrimination within professional sports does not stand to have any better rationale than the sexual discrimination which prevails in any other fields of our daily lives. Thesis: While the women competing against the men in the professional sports would stand as a positive win over the gender discrimination, it would decrease the uncertainty of the outcomes and even potentially change the games that the world has already come to love. The sports are not always about the physical strength of the individual. Some sports usually highlight physical aspects while others need skills. For example, in athletics at the professional levels, it is known that strength is needed in terms of dedication and endurance of the athlete. While the men and women differ in the physicality and body composures, the do not

GENDER EQUALITY IN PROFESSIONAL ATHLETICS 3 have a variation in the capacity of their individual skills. In the categories of sports whereby the importance of individual skills outweigh the need for physicality, then it follows that everyone should be given an equal right and opportunity to compete equally. The women should be allowed to compete against the men in the professional athletics. This is accrued from the fact that; just like the men in sports, only the women who are good enough with the reputable skills, strengths and endurance will be drafted and will be included in the professional teams (Cahn, 2015). That is the nature of competitive athletics and even in other sports. It can be regarded as the natural selection of sports which selects the best players and rules out the low performers regardless of their gender.
