ELA and Math Standards CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.8.5 o Demonstrate understanding of figurative language, word relationships, and nuances in word meanings. o CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.8.5.A o Interpret figures of speech (e.g., literary, biblical, and mythological allusions) in context . o CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.8.EE.A.1 o Know and apply the properties of integer exponents to generate equivalent numerical expressions. For example, 32 × 3-5 = 3-3 = 1/33 = 1/27. ELA and Math Learning Objectives Students will be able to... Listen, analyze, and evaluate message, purpose, and perspective of figurative language from a variety of literary forms (e.g. Text, Music, Media, Film, Poetry, Cultural idioms) Demonstrate their understanding of the unit’s Figurative Language (e.g. simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia, hyperbole, alliteration, personification)
ALTERANTIVE ASSESSMNTS 3 Collaborate in small groups of 2-3 to create and share an end of unit assessment project which will model the literacy skills needed to research, synthesize, evaluate and communicate the information effectively in a variety of media project formats (textual, visual, and digital). Convert integer exponents into standard form. Understand and be able to work with negative and positive exponents .
