ELL PROFICIENCY STANDARDS 2 ELL Proficiency Standards This assignment will create a learning activity that is aligned with a learning objective at the basic proficiency level on the ELP standards for listening and speaking; reading and writing domains. It will account for language acquisition principles within the design of the presented activities. A rationale that describes how each activity addresses the characteristics of the ELL at the basic level and how language acquisition principles have been accounted for within the design will be presented. Finally, some ideas for strategies to differentiate these activities for students in the pre-production and early production stages will be presented. To organize the assignment, the data accounted for this assignment will be presented in the form of a table. ELA Domain Grade Arizona ELA standards Aligned Activity Learning proficiency Objective for ELP students listening and speaking 2 nd Grade Ask and answer questions about what a speaker says in order to clarify comprehension, gather additional information, or deepen understanding of a topic or issue. I will model and instruct small and large group discussion. I will ask students to follow teacher directed rules for discussions . I will model and instructs how to appropriately respond to group discussions. I will use games such as charades which use actions to communicate the secret word in place of photos. Language acquisition is accounted for by not instructing students to talk about complex topics. Objectives at this level may include “articulate for learners the academic language functions and skills that they need to master to fully participate in the lesson and meet the grade-level content
