EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT 2 Developmental trends and milestones, theories, and strategies to facilitate best practices to support young children’s development Child development can be termed to be the foundation with which early childhood practice is based. As the developmental domains of the child at this stage are consequently interrelated, early childhood professionals working in different domains such as early childhood education centers must comprehend the development process. They also need to use the best practices to support the growth of the child, development and learning. As growth and development are predictable generally, the early childhood professionals can be in a position to recognize all signs of potential delay in development and also recognize all healthy development milestones. In the early development years, children always express their developing abilities, learning a variety of ways and development abilities. As growth and development and even learning occurs in different ways, assessment and documentation strategies and tools must capture this variety. The early childhood professionals must gather information on a child’s growth, and learning is shared with guardians/parents to provide ongoing support for continued intervention or progress. Child development theories and the best practice for early childhood development serves as a guide to planning, implementing, and even making a reflection on early practices employed by these professionals (Brown et al., 2009). These theories explain how kids grow and change over their childhood course and even provide a framework for thinking about learning and growth. The first theory relates to social learning theory. According to this theory, reinforcement and conditioning processes cannot explain all processes of human learning. In this theory, the key highlight is that behaviors can be learned through modelling and observation. This implies

The social learning development theory also suggests that observation usually plays a critical role when it comes to learning in children. However, this observation does not primarily come in the form of watching a live model but instead, children can also learn through listening to verbal instructions on how to perform a behavior. Parents and professional teachers usually engage the children through modelling as they act as models from the child whereby they demonstrate appropriate verbalizations and actions. When the children have observed a model doing something worth punishment, they are most likely to learn from the model (Cherry, 2012). For the children to be able to learn from this model, they have to pay attention to the events that are being modeled. When the model is
