Janah DiaBIOL 111-558Photosynthesis Lab Summary Lab Activity One In this activity, the effectiveness of various wavelengths of light for photosynthesis was tested. This was done by aspirating spinach disks to remove any oxygen, placing these disks in beakers containing sodium bicarbonate solution (to help draw out oxygen), and observing the number of floating disks over time in the different lights. The control groups of light were the white and dark. The light being “all” wavelengths of light (so should be the most effective as it contains the most effective and second most effective wavelengths for photosynthesis) and dark being no wavelengths (so no photosynthetic activity should be observed). The initial hypothesis states if all beakers were placed in different wavelengths of light the red light would have the highest number of floating disks over time. The result was that the blue light was the best with 70% of disks floating (the white was the “best” but cannot be counted as it cannot be measured) with red in second with 60% of disks floating. The hypothesis
