Reflection Paper #5 Sociology 493 Lani Martin 02/22/2019 Status and Role Your status can be defined as your position in a social situation, “…simply a position that a person occupies in a social structure” [ CITATION lis \l 1033 ]. It can be about family, work, age, race, sex, ethnicity and/or social class as well as a host of other things. Your role is how you behave in regard to your status. “…the sum total of expectations about the behavior attached to a particular social status” [ CITATION lis \l 1033 ] My status is manager first and hairdresser second. As the manager I am expected to handle hiring and letting go, scheduling, coaching and ordering; as a hairdresser I am expected to treat all my guests with the utmost respect and make sure their personal experience with me and at the salon is an enjoyable and satisfying one. My role as a manager is to lead by example. I am expected to show up in proper attire, adhere to all company rules and regulations and verify that my employees are doing the same. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
