Reflection Paper #6 Sociology 493 Lani Martin 03/01/2019 Open-Ended and Closed-Ended Questions An open-ended question refers to a question that calls for a response using the subject's own knowledge and/or feelings , in contrast to a close-ended question, which can be answered by a simple yes or no, or specific piece of information [ CITATION USL \l 1033 ] . The Practical Skeptic refers to using these types of questions when writing or administering surveys. You use open-ended questions when you “might want to hear or read respondents’ answers in their own words” [ CITATION lis \l 1033 ] . Close-ended questions “require that you not only ask the question, but also provide answer categories” [ CITATION lis \l 1033 ] . Hairdressers use open-ended questions during our consultation. What do you like about your current hair style, how often do you shampoo your hair and how much time do you spend getting ready in the morning? Closed-ended questions are reserved for when we are checking out our guests. Do you want to come back in 4 weeks, 6 weeks or 8 weeks?

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
