CASE STUDY: HEALING AND AUTONOMY 2 Introduction Faith has continued to be a popular issue in the medical field in the recent years. Many medical practitioners have most of the time found themselves in tight situations when, for instance, their patients turn down treatment citing their faith. On the other hand, most patients have also found it difficult especially when the medical care givers have declined to carry out a particular procedure because of their spiritual belief (King & Koenig, 2013). In the past, spirituality issues never received the needed attention. However, it has today gained popularity all over the world and every individual in the field of medicine appears to have a school of thought. It is not easy to find a common ground between spirituality or faith and health care because it most of the time result in divisions given that the concerned parties always have a conflicting approach (Puchalski et al., 2014). According to the case under review, Mike and Joanne’s profound faith and belief in God makes it uneasy for the medical practitioners to work or carry out the necessary procedure on their child. The universal freedom of worship leaves one wondering whether such significant health decisions should solely rest in the hands of the parents. The paper aims at evaluating the case study on Mike and Joanne as well as their sick eight-year-old son. It will give a discussion of all the issues asked from the four study questions. Response to question one The simple fact Mike and Joanne’s son is in need of an urgent medical attention is the first pressing issue observed in the case under study. The seriousness of James’ condition demands an urgent medical care. As usual, there is always an individual whose life is in danger whenever a clash between health care and faith ensue. The young boy, James, found himself at the center of the expedition his parents to test belief in the heavenly Father. Instead of giving priority to the life of James, Mike and Joanne decided to prioritize their faith in

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
