Mandate of the SAHRC (1) The Commission’s mandate in terms of section 184(1) of the South African Constitution and as a “state institution supporting constitutional democracy” is to: Promote respect for human rights and a culture of human rights; Promote the protection, development and attainment of human rights; and Monitor and assess the observance of human rights in the Republic 3
