Junk Van has a pretty good place in the waste disposal industry. It differentiates itself mainly because of the market Junk Van has over the rest of the industry is that it is a medium-sized company. Marcus Kingo created a business that required minimum overhead costs and by doing so he was also able to offer a customer friendly pricing plan. 1-888-JUNK-VAN utilizes a virtual business model which does not require a physical office. All the staff operates from home,and internal business communication is electronic. As the case study states, a good majority of Canada’s junk removal companies fall under the category of the “one man one van” idea. Junk-Van is comprised of 10 employees, with the company being this small they have the ability be flexible as a small company, while still having the support and power of a larger company. In other words, Junk Van has the capacity to be good at being able to accommodate its client’s needs on a personal level while having the influence and internal support of a larger corporation.Kingo was clever in seeing the opportunity of not having a physical office space designated to his business. The revenue that Junk Van would be using on rent can instead be utilized in other areas of the business such as “in your face” or direct marketing. This is the strategy that many businesses are moving in the direction of in the modern age and Junk Van is ahead of the curve. According to the data provided in the case study, this strategy seems to be proving effective for them.
