Surname 1 Your Name Instructor’s Name Course Date Feminism Feminism can generally be described as a political, social and equality theory on sexes. “The Story of an Hour” by Chopin has a major narration of feminism. Chopin’s story exhibits women lack of freedom and subjection to prejudice in the 1800s. In this period women were not accorded any rights and were expected to be submissive and cater for all need by their husbands. In "The Story of an Hour" the main character is a woman, Mrs Mallard who is suffering from heart problems. When she was informed about his husband’s demise, she got emotional but later got joyous since she had reaped freedom as a result of his husband’s death. Chopin showcases women serving unequal roles in their marriages. Since women were unhappy in their marriages, this sowed marriages as institutions that restrained women. The paper seeks to analyze feminism in “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin. To understand feminism in Chopin’s story it is necessary to evaluate Mrs Mallard's family. Mrs Mallards family can be characterized as a classical working setup owing to Mr Mallard's working status. Mr. Mallard was employed at railroad construction while Mrs. Mallard was accorded house chores. Mr. Mallard succumbed to a railroad accident and the relatives had to be sensitive when passing the information to Mrs. Mallard since she had heart problems.
