Module 6 1. Jonathan Haidt suggests that religion has a particular impact on individuals. Identify what he says this impact is, and then comment on the extent to which you agree with him. Religion can impact people to make different life choices. Religion takes them through the “staircase of life.” It can make us feel uplifted and detached from this world in a positive sense. I do agree with him when he mentions Durkheim that believed religion was used to unite people into a moral community and it makes them want to work together. He mentions that you don’t need religion to get you through the “staircase of life” and it can come from a variety of methods such as war for example. Whatever method is used, as you go up the staircase, things that are more egotistical and self-centered are slowly let go of. My interpretation of Haidt’s main point that religion causes people to lose themselves. I do not agree with all aspects of Haidt’s speech
