The three levels of prevention are: primary, secondary and tertiary. The first, primary, is prevention before a disease even develops. Secondary prevention is focused on “detection and screening” for a disease (Merrill, 2017, pg. 12). The final level is tertiary prevention. This is when the disease has already manifested and the focus is on keeping the illness from progressing any further. The type of disease strongly influences the three different levels of prevention in the way that it determines what the prevention looks like. For example, typical primary prevention takes places through education and lifestyle changes (Merrill, 2017) which means that if the chances of getting lung cancer is a big enough concern to an individual then he or she will, more than likely, research the disease fully and exclude tobacco products in all forms from their life. They may avoid going out to bars, or interacting with friends/family who smoke. Secondary prevention

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
