Describe a time when you encountered a similar situation in which you had to use either your "gut" or your "brain" to move forward. Which did you choose? Why? I chose to use the “Marshmallow Test” video for my journal. This is something I can relate to very recently. What the test is trying to gain insight into is how children develop control over instant or delayed gratification. I can relate to this study because it’s like my educational journey. When I began picking my classes and gearing up to start, I had to make the decision (using my “brain”) whether to go all-in with the academics or pepper some of my degree/elective coursework in my schedule. In the past, I wanted to take the “fun” classes without putting in the effort when it came to the core important classes. I

Unformatted text preview: knew this time around, that I wanted to make sure I went all-in with my academics so that when the time came around to take my degree courses and choose my electives, the core academics were out of the way. How has watching this video influenced your approach to these types of decisions and your problem-solving strategy? I think it helps me look at things more rationally, rather than thinking of the probability and chance, but it also helps me to realize that the reward is greater if I give myself the chance to really stop and think about what I am doing. The reward for me is just like the marshmallow. I need to wait it out for just a while, even though I want it now. I will appreciate it much more in the end....
