Applying Measurement Tools The Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) a standardized performance measurement tool used to determine the appropriate and or overuse of services focused on the management of chronic disease along with preventive service, care service in behavioral health as well as preventable hospitalizations. Patient satisfaction created by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) commissioned by the centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. HEDIS was designed to advance health care by measuring quality of care given by providers and practices while providing consumers the ability better choices of healthcare plans by distinguishing between their performance. HEDIS also accredits health plans. Providers, nurses, and hospitals can HEDIS standardized measurement tools for improvement, monitor the success of quality improvement initiatives, track development, and provide a set of measurement standards that allow comparison with other plans. Data allow identification of performance gaps and establishment of realistic targets for improvement.
