Youssef Jalloul History 103 February 26, 2008 Theodor Herzl (The Jewish Estate) According to Theodor Herzl in his essay “The Jewish State”, the Jews were persecuted against at all levels including political and economical status. He asks several questions regarding the persecutions of the Jewish communities, and where they stand. The main question which Herzl regards as the “Jewish Question” is “Are we to “get out” now and where to? Or, may we yet remain? And, how long?” (pp.533). Herzl answers the question by saying that if they were to stay can they hope for change regarding how they are treated. Even if they are treated better, is it going to be equal to how good as every other citizen is being treated? Most of the nation that coexists with the Jews is either openly or covertly Anti-Semitic. He also mentions that the Jews did not choose to be in finance, but that the conditions that they lived in drove them into it.
