Abstract
This study was conducted to evaluate the efficiency and reliability of using iPads in the
classroom for the learning process. The study methodology was qualitative and quantitative.
During this study questionnaires and interviews were used to collect data. The study participants
were around 30 teachers that teach with iPads and a whole class of 15 students from secondary
stage studying at a private Spanish school Reial Monestir de Santa Isabel and who use iPads in
their learning process. The results showed different outcomes, the most noticeable advantage of
iPad use was having access to the internet quickly. This led to having more information for
students and more choices of activities for teachers to make the best out of a lesson. Moreover,
iPads are small and light, which shows that they are very efficient in carrying them. In addition,
the use of iPads also showed an increase in student and teacher motivations to make the classes
more interesting for both parties, which led to a better understanding between the students and
teachers. However, some minor negative aspects appeared, such as making iPads the central
attention of the classroom rather than considering them as a tool to reach educational goals, this
means that it can be used as a distraction for students. From the teachers’ perspective, their main
worry is that the use of iPads can result mainly in weakening students’ writing abilities and bad
handwriting.
